Place of the event: Wojska Polskiego 83, 91-755 Łódź
When: 28 February 2024 (Wednesday) 18:00 - Open End

The Marek Edelman Dialogue Center in Lodz has resumed the series "Tłumaczenie świata" [Explaining the world], in which it addresses important socio-political problems plaguing the contemporary world. During the next lecture, researchers from the University of Lodz will talk about the complex conflict in Syria.

Dr Robert Czulda and Dr Krzysztof Zdulski, lecturers from the University of Lodz, will deliver a lecture entitled "Wojna domowa w Syrii, czyli bliskowschodni węzeł gordyjski" [Civil war in Syria, or the Middle East Gordian knot] on 28 February (Wednesday) at 6:00 p.m. at the Marek Edelman Dialogue Center in Lodz. This is the second lecture as part of the series "Islam we współczesnym świecie" [Islam in the Modern World], organised in cooperation with the Department of Middle East and North Africa at the University of Lodz Faculty of International and Political Studies.

We want to make our audience familiar with the topic of Muslim culture. Islam is one of three monotheistic religions practiced by over 1.5 billion people in the world. Although in popular discourse it is treated as one, it is internally very diverse. The conflict in Syria is a good excuse to talk about the culture and problems of the Middle East. During the meeting, our speakers will discuss religious, ethnic and political divisions, as well as talk about economic and social challenges in this part of the world

– says Dr Joanna Podolska, Director at the Dialogue Center
