Apel o wsparcie protestujących studentów w Iranie

Wydarzenie odbędzie się 8 października o 17.00 na Piotrkowskiej 75.

plakatDear Madam or Sir,

My name is Touska Gholami Khaljiri. I am from Iran and I am a master’s graduate of University of Łódź, Faculty of International and Political Studies.

I am writing to request for help in spreading the news about the event which will be held in solidarity with the Iranian people this week in Łódź. As a former member of the academic community at the University of Łódź, I would like to ask you to pass the information to the teachers and students of your faculty/department. Surely you have heard of what is happening in Iran these days. Iranian women and men have been fighting an unjust war with the government militia on the streets every day since September 18th. Several foreign citizens, including a Polish scientist, have also been arrested during the past few weeks. The government is trying to keep these events quiet by arresting journalists and imposing heavy limitations on access to the internet inside the country.

In the latest move to suppress anti-government protests, Iranian authorities have deployed plainclothes police and paramilitary forces to attack students organizing sit-ins and demonstrations on university campuses. On Sunday, as the second day of a sit-in protest over the arrest of student activists continued on the Sharif University campus, police and members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) attacked the students and arrested the organizers of the sit-in. Raids continued until the evening, while outside the campus the riot police surrounded the university and closed university entrances. More than 30 students have been arrested and witnesses say they have heard gunshots from inside the university campus.

Meanwhile, in solidarity with Sharif University students, demonstrations were held on Monday on several university campuses in Tehran and other major cities, including Babol, Mashhad, Tabriz, and Kerman. And Tabriz has faced a similar situation as Sharif University and many students were arrested from all these university campuses and dormitories, sometimes even during the night!

Therefore, this event has been organized by Iranians living in Łódź, because we felt the responsibility to raise awareness about the recent news about Iran.

The event is held on Saturday, October 8th, 17:00-19:00 at Piotrkowska 75

I have also attached the poster that we have designed with the main motto of this movement: Women, Life, Freedom!

Let us be united as an academic community against the political regimes and show our solidarity with those oppressed.

Best regards,

Touska Gholami Khaljiri
