Warsztaty z nauczania kontrowersyjnych zagadnień (UNIC)

The next UNIC's InterTeach, i.e. UNIC's professional development programme for those who are academic teachers, is a workshop on teaching controversial issues. The (online) event will be held on 5 February 2025 from 1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. and will be led by specialists from Malmö University. The registration deadline is 27 January.

The increasing polarisation of opinions and the taking of extreme positions in discussions is also present in higher education. This is facilitated not only by international conflicts, but also by the radicalising political discourse and the expressive and often distorted content on social media.

If you want to get familiar with strategies for handling controversial and sensitive issues and find out what tools to use to effectively conduct academic classes without avoiding such issues, we encourage you to participate in the workshops.

The participants will engage with a tool that Fredrik Portin, Associate Professor and Pedagogical Developer at Malmö University developed that highlights the pitfalls that a teacher might fall into when teaching controversial issues.

After the 3-hour workshop, its participants will be able to:

  • critically examine the use of controversial issues in their own field of knowledge,
  • engage with a tool that highlights the pitfalls that a teacher might fall into when teaching controversial issues,
  • reflect on how the pitfalls that the tool highlights are expressed in their own academic discipline.

WORKSHOP REGISTRATION

The deadline for registration for the workshops is 27 January 2025. The registration form and more information can be found on the UNIC website.
