The event was organised by the International Hub and funded under the CONNECT Welcome to Poland project implemented with the support of the National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA).
The meeting began with an information session, during which participants gained valuable information on available research grants and opportunities for academic career development in Poland. Vice- Rector for Internationalisation of Science and Education, dr hab. Katarzyna de Lazari-Radek, extended Christmas wishes to participants emphasising the importance of international scientific cooperation and the support offered by the University of Lodz to its international researchers.
Next, in a truly festive atmosphere, the participants decorated a Christmas tree with hand-decorated baubles. This symbolic moment was an excellent opportunity to integrate and share experiences in a less formal setting.
The highlight of the evening, however, was the tasting of traditional Polish Christmas dishes. For many of the participants, it was their first opportunity to taste such delicacies, which prompted many enthusiastic comments and questions about Polish Christmas traditions.
This event shows how important it is to create spaces for integration and cultural exchange. It is extremely important that international researchers and doctoral students can feel at home at our university
– comments Dr Maciej Jażdżewski, Head of the University of Lodz International Hub.
The Christmas event was an excellent example of how activities under the NAWA grant can support the development of international cooperation and foster a sense of community in the academic environment. The University of Lodz plans to host similar events to strengthen intercultural relationships and promote openness in science and everyday life.
